Exercise excerpt
For my new class, I had to do a mini grouping of photos based on the idea of gesture/no face. Theo helped me out by agreeing to be photographed, and it was fun.
I got this crazy red bedspread* that wanted to be part of the shoot as well.
*when I was growing up my grandma had white chenille bedspreads on the beds in most of the rooms (one room had Pendleton blankets), and I was discussing the bedspreads with my aunt, who favors a white hobnail design for her personal bedspread (basically it’s pre-chenille, similarly made by the bumps cotton aren’t cut like they are for chenille), and she mentioned that at the first house they lived in in Ann Arbor that they had red chenille bedspreads. I had been considering getting a chenille bedspread because of my deep dive into a specific time in my childhood by way of a photo project had me thinking about them, but I was totally put off by owning a large white piece of fabric, because I love to spill coffee in bed, so the red chenille made more sense. It arrived recently and it’s so red it’s kind of terrifying to look at, but makes a good backdrop for a tiny set of photos for my class. At least I think so. I don’t usually go for super saturated bright colors in photos, but in this case, it’s all real!
